Wednesday afternoon after work Casey and I went in for a routine doctors appt at LDS Hospital. Maddie's blood flow in her umbilical cord was not what the doctor wanted, she was a little concerned since Maddie was also 21 days behind in growth. She sent us straight to the University Hospital for observation and steroid shots. I was admitted Wednesday night and was told that they would keep me there until Friday morning, I had to get two rounds of steroids in order to help develop Maddie's lungs. Friday morning we went in for our last NST before getting discharged. Maddie didn't perform to par for that so we had to get a Bio Physical Profile. After failing that, we were told to move and wait for the doctor in labor and delivery. We still thought everything was ok- we had been told the night before that we had two more weeks before delivery. We just thought I would have to stay one more night in the hospital for observation. Well we were wrong! The doctor came in and said we were delivering that day! I told Casey to run home and grab the camera and video camera- according to the doctor we didn't even have time for that! I let her know we only lived 5 minutes away... that is when she made things clear to us. My OR was being cleaned, they have bumped all other C-sections and I was to be taken back to surgery in ten minutes!!! WHAT! We were so blessed to know some med students working that day who were able to stand with Casey in giving me a blessing. Within 30 minutes of being told we were delivering we had our little Maddox. And everything has been a whirlwind ever since! She has been our little rockstar, showing all the doctors just how tough she is. These are a few of the records our Maddox has broken so far: Surgery after birth is usually at least a week a way- Maddie had her surgery at 3 days old. After surgery you usually need to wait anywhere from 1 to 4 weeks to hear bowel sounds- You could hear Maddie's bowels 2 days after surgery. Pre-mature babies usually can't breath on their own and have multiple apnic events- Maddie has been breathing room air since birth and has only have 3 apnic events. She is our little fighter and we couldn't be more proud. Now she is going to try out eating (yet another record breaker, this is something they weren't expecting for a few more weeks). Everything has been going amazing so far but we are not out of the woods yet. Please keep Maddox in your prayers- and please know how eternally grateful we are for your thoughts and prayers so far. Maddox could not have gotten this far without the Hand of her Heavenly Father who not only loves her but KNOWS her. I know that our Heavenly Father is watching over our little family- and I am so thankful.

I am so happy to hear what a fighter Maddox is and what wonderful parents she has. Take time to get well Julie and good luck to miss Maddie in her recovery as well.
Maddie received a special 'call' from her Heavenly Father before her birth and she is 'magnifying' it valiantly. She is a blessed baby in every respect, but so are you two VERY blessed parents. Absolutely loved the photo of Casey holding his little daughter. She already has him wrapped around her very tiny finger. Good job Maddie!!
