Maddie and I have spent the last 6 days at Primary Children's Hospital. The poor thing went in early Thursday morning happy as can be not knowing what was going to hit her.... then she woke up after a 3 hour surgery dazed and confused. But the good news- hopefully there are no more surgeries in her future and the doctor was able to reconstruct a belly button for her! She was such a trooper. The first night was a little rough, but once she was getting steady doses of morphine she turned into the crowd pleaser we all know and love. We would go on walks and anyone whether it be patient, staff, parent she would look up at from her wagon smile wave and say HI! We made some friends in the Forever Yong Zone playroom for all the kids who are staying at Primarys. When we would be out walking the hospital and Maddie would hear a baby crying she would change direction stand at their door and look so concerned- she just wanted to go in and give any sad kid a hug. We read lots of books, watched lots of Disney Channel, went on lots of walks, sang lots of songs, and played lots of peek-a-boo. Whenever any nurse came into our room to take her vitals or give her meds she was say hi, bye, and blow a kiss. After all she has been through she has been so tough and happy along the way! I couldn't ask for a better kiddo.
Thank you to Maddie's medical team, thanks to all our family, thanks to Primary Childrens, thanks to our friends, and a big thank you to Diet Coke without you this would not have been possible!
